When To Plant Guava Seeds?
The propagation of guava trees by seeds is the best for indoor gardens. But if you wanted to grow a guava tree in an orchard then you should use cutting, grafting, and budding procedures.
Guava trees can exist only in USDA 9a–10b zone. You should cover the plant in winter and keep them in a shady place if it is in the container. You should take the seeds from the fruits of guava when they are ripened, for growing new guava plants.
How To Plant Guava Seeds?
- If you wanted to grow a guava tree firstly you should take good quality seeds. Good and best quality seeds are available in garden shops or you can extract from ripe fruit.
- You should soak the seeds in water for 10 to 15 days for the best germination. The other way for the germination of seeds is boiling 5 minutes before sowing. In this way, the outer hard layer of the seed softens and the seed is ready to generate an embryo.
- You should buy a pot and fill it with good quality potting soil. Sow the seeds in it and cover them slightly with the same soil. Give them water and cover the entire pot with plastic wrap.
- Guava survives at a moderate temperature like 20 to 25°c. But if you have a low temperature, you should keep them indoors. Remove the plastic cover when the embryo are appear outside the soil.
- Guava seeds take 3 to 10 weeks for sprouts. You can transplant the seedlings when they are 4 to 18 inches long. The guava tree gives fruit in 1 to 3 years.
- Grow the guava plant with seeds are best as compared to cuttings because in this way they become mature in one year and produce their first flowers.
Soil For Guava:
Like other plants, guava plants also need more nutritious soil. Guava trees can survive in 5 to 7 PH of the soil. The guava tree can’t propagate in the salty soil. So we keep them in fertile soil in containers.
Guava plants need more nutrients for their growth, we should add compost, rotted manure, and good fertilizer in the soil so that guava trees grow well and produce many fruits.
Light and temperature:
Guava trees survive in bright light and warm conditions. It needs more temperature for propagation. You should grow guava plants in containers so that you put them indoor in winter easily.
But if you grow them in your garden or yard so should you give them more attention in winter when the temperature is low.
Guava gives the best result in more heat and light. It needs 8 to 10 hours of sunlight per day for growth. Guava trees survive in zone 9b-11.

Watering Guavas:
Guava plants also need water frequently. Like other plants, overwatering is harmful to them. Guava plants survive in hot conditions but they need moist soil and water for growth.
You should give them water 3,4 times per week in summer. You should use big containers and raise beds for growing plants because they are best for drainage.
Fertilizers for Guavas:

Pruning Guavas:

Harvesting:
Guava plants give fruit in 2,4 years. When you harvest the fruits of guava firstly see its size color and fragrance. You can cut the guavas before ripening because they are also ripe after cutting.
You should select the good guavas if you cut them before ripening and put them with apple and banana. Because apple and banana release ethylene that helps in ripening. Use harvesting scissors for cutting the fruits with the help of it you can protect the fruits and small branches.
